Traditional Metal Braces

Traditional metal braces are an excellent choice if you do not want to worry about keeping track of removable appliances. This makes it worry-free for parents as far as potential replacement of lost appliances because young patients cannot remove them. Plus, metal braces give you the opportunity to chance out the color of the bands with the season, sports teams, national awareness months, etc., so you can really personalize your smile!

Anyone can be the ideal candidate for traditional metal braces. Not only is it an effective way to move teeth, but the technology has been the standard for years.

Self-Ligating Braces

Like traditional metal braces, self-ligating braces use a bracket and wire to straighten teeth. The difference is that self-ligating braces do not use rubber bands to attach the wire to the bracket. Instead, a free-sliding door mechanism holds the wire in place. This technology allows us to potentially speed up parts of the treatment because there is a lot of fluid movement of the wire within the bracket.

The ideal candidate for self-ligating braces would be an adult who does not want colored bands showing, and who wants a more efficient treatment.

Clear/Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces are white braces made out of ceramic material. They are more discreet than metal braces, but they do have some drawbacks. The ceramic material can break easier then metal, so more care is needed when wearing ceramic braces.

Ceramic braces are a good choice for patients who require the need for brackets and wires, but are concerned with the aesthetics of metal braces.

Clear Aligners

Clear aligners are snug plastic trays that fit over the teeth. They are comfortable to wear, blend in with the teeth, and move the teeth gently over time. Clear aligners can be removed when eating, so dietary changes are not necessary.

The ideal candidate for clear aligner treatment is a patient who wants to move their teeth without a change of lifestyle or home-care routine. Also, clear aligner patients must be responsible for wearing the aligners for the allotted time, as under use will result in poorer tooth movement.
